 HORSE RESCUE

In 2009, we saw a need to help horses and ponies that come through our Parish shelter.  The Ouachita Parish Shelter is not equipped to care for or adopt out livestock. Through our Animal Shelter Rescue program PAWS of NE LA is able to step in and help these horses.

We either send them to rescue or adopt them out locally (or even nationally).

We owe a HUGE thank you to Pat with Hooved Animal Rescue and Placement (HARP) in South LA for always offering help and advice.  HARP has taken in 5 horses pulled from the Ouachita Parish Shelter.

Our first group of rescue horses came to us in October 2009.  Click here to learn more about Ranger, Eugene, George and Ginger...

"Harry Christmas" was seized by the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Dept. in late December 2009. His pasturemate starved to death and suffered a miserable fate. As of Feb 29th, 2010, Harry is living on a ranch near San Antonio, TX. His new "mom" is a farrier and he has several kiddos to love and spoil him.

Violet was seized on February 18th, 2010 due to being neglected and tethered.  Ouachita Parish has an law which prohibits all livestock from being tied as a means of confinement.  Click here to view the Parish ordinance.  On May 23rd, Violet headed down to HARP where she will be started under saddle and put up for adoption.

On June 19, 2010 Ouachita Parish Animal Control seized a sweet yearling filly.  Her dam was found dead due to starvation/dehydration.  Stay tuned for updates on Miss Honey.
